As part of the DFID-funded Madhya Pradesh Urban Infrastructure Investment Programme (MPUIIP), delivered a two-year Safe City initiative across 250 slums in four cities: Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore and Jabalpur. In June 2013, Social Development Direct was commissioned to lead an independent impact evaluation of this initiative in partnership with Colombia University and New Concept Information Systems. Designed to reduce the prevalence of violence experienced by women in both the domestic and public spheres, the initiative includes interventions at two levels, namely slum and city levels.
The data collection strategy for this evaluation is based on a mixed-methods approach designed to collect both quantitative and qualitative data from the 250 slums. The end line data collection has just been completed.
