Operation research (or) – knowledge; attitude; practices (KAP) About tuberculosis (TB): baseline survey among school children in Seven districts

 New Concept conducted a baseline with the key research question, “what are the effective interventions to improve KAP of the students and teachers of the schools and healthcare providers and authorities of school health programs at the district level on TB & RNTCP”. Thus, the objectives were:

• to ascertain baseline KAP of the students and teachers of the schools and healthcare providers and authorities of school health programs at the district level on TB & RNTCP;

• to test specific interventions to improve TB related KAP in schools;

• to assess the changes in KAP of the students and teachers of the schools and healthcare providers and authorities of school health programs at the district level; and

• to document and disseminate the experiences and learning of the OR with the RNTCP.

 Our role

• Develop the OR baseline design

• Develop the survey tools for data collection

• Provide training to researchers of World Vision’s NGO partners for data collection using PDAs Analyse the data and provide detailed baseline reports

• Number of schools visited: 318

• Number of children interviewed: 13,240

• Number of teachers interviewed: 6311

 

Learnings

• Working with and building capacity of implementation partner’s research team on research design; methodology and approach

• Review and triangulation of data especially with various grade wise text books (curriculum of different states) with the KAP of teachers and linking it with the KAP of students

• Presentation of Research Design and report with high level committee of RNTCP (GOI)
