In keeping up with the requirements of comprehensively documenting the Urban Health Initiative (UHI) – being implemented across eleven cities of Uttar Pradesh from 2009-10 onwards – a team of documenters from New Concept covered 8 cities in the month of April and May.
The objective was to interact with the city teams, at every level from the management to
the field, and get an understanding of the strategies adopted, successful users, challenges
as well as innovations.
An expert team from NCIS made extensive field notes covering key aspects of UHI’s
work that is focused on enabling the urban poor in the city slums to access family
planning methods through an extensive network of UHI field workers, medical facilities,
community motivators and NGO partners.
NCIS has also worked on the Photo Management
System and has organized three events for UHI:
1) An IEC fair in Lucknow
2) “National Consultation on Meeting People’s Family Planning Needs to Achieve FP2020
Goals within the RMNCH +A Framework” organised by Public Health Foundation of
India (PHFI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW)
and supported by the UHI.
3) One-day event focusing on strategies to be adopted and state level mechanisms to
be strengthened to enable Uttar Pradesh to meet the state-level FP2020 goals, as part
of the national level targets committed by India at the London Summit 2012.
