Tribal/indigenous people are among the most marginalized, exploited and vulnerable groups in our society. Over the years, they have become a disadvantaged and neglected lot. They are also being increasingly displaced from their customary lands and deprived of their natural resources by various vested interests; as a consequence of their exclusion, they are also victims of human rights violations.

This study, a product of collective inquiry started with the workshop in 2008 at XIMB that initiated the idea of using the RTD framework in the context of debates on the agricultural policy of the Government of Orissa and the preparation of the report on the lives of the people of Orissa.

IFAD funds projects in India for rural development, tribal development, women’s empowerment, natural resource management and rural finance.

OTELP’s participatory processes and fostering of community-based institution building empowers tribal self-reliance for enhanced food security, increased incomes, and improved quality of life.
